July 19th: Napa to Sonoma half-marathon
July 26th: SFM full marathon
September 26th: See Jane Run Tri (sprint)
October 4th; Cowtown full marathon
November 1st: NYCM full marathon
December 6th: CIM full marathon
So I'm crazy right??? Yeah, kinda but also woooooooo freaken hoooooooooo!!!!!!! The marathon gods have bestowed upon me the honor of being selected to run in the New York City Marathon!!!! That being said I was never planning on racing NYC since I want to take it all in. I have always planned on doing CIM, but during SD I knew I didn't want to wait that long to race another full marathon, so I decided I needed to join my RoHos and do Cowtown. I have a 20 miler on the schedule the weekend of SFM, which is also my BIRTHDAY so I HAD to do the full. It's weird, but they all fall into place perfectly. I will be doing 4 more marathons by the end of the year! THAT IS....if I don't die during the sprint tri I signed up for!!!!!!
During my post-SD funk I have been running. I've been getting in 30ish mile a week and have done long runs of 10, 12, and 14 miles so far....not too shabby considering I was dealing with a very pissed ITB and a serious lack of motivation mentally. During this time I decided I wanted to try swimming, so one day I went out bought a suit and goggles. I finally got the courage to put the suit on..can we say HIGH cut!!!!! I surprised myself and was pretty decent in the water. I wasn't gasping for air and did about 300 meters my 1st time in the pool. I know that's small potatoes to you swimming pros, but I didn't want start off by over doing it. I've only been swimming about 4 times since then and have been consistently doing 400 meters. I figure form is more important than distance at this point, so I have been trying to be really conscious of my body in the water. Randomly one day I did a reverse tri workout. Ran 5 miles, biked 12 miles on the stationary bike, then swam 400 meters. I totally loved it!!!! The next day I signed up for a sprint tri :) ps. I do not own a bike and have not been on one is approximately 10 years :-/
So there you have it. I am alive! I have to say the funk has passed and I am fully ready to kick some a$$ and take names in the upcoming months.
I have decided this is my "theme song" for the rest of the year/training cycle :)
Disclaimer: I do not in any way shape or form condone the outfits or dance moves performed during the making of this music video.

Holy crap thats a lot of races! You are going to kick some major butt though. Can't wait to see you over here for the NYCM!
2009 is going to be quite the year :) I am VERY excited for you and for us since I am joining you in many of these races!! I am so excited to have you as a training buddy again too <3 cant wait to see you rocking these races!!
and its always nice to have someone else in a funk to help yourself get out of one too... we will be back in full swing starting tomorrow!
Busy busy year for you my dear!
You could do the Tri in your sleep, you'll be blowing past everyone on the run!
As for swimming, I think you have a smart plan, focus on form and technique then distance. You'll be fine!
Wow, a lot of races; or I should say a lot of LONG races. You'll do great, I'm sure.
I've signed up for a couple of races a month for the remainder of the year, but only one half marathon (Sept 20) and two marathons (Oct 11 & of course CIM in Dec).
Keep up the good work! See you in December!
WOW! Those are a lot of races, but I think if I could, I would be as crazy as you. Your tri talk has intrigued me, I guess I never thought people could just pick it up, but look at you! Great job and good luck
Look at all those races!! Awesome! How exciting!! I wanted to do Sonoma but it was sold out before I signed up. We're doing Healdsburg instead. And NYC - what a GREAT race (I've heard). I'm totally getting in the lottery next year. Have fun!
You'll do great!
Just so you know, the Tri will seem easy for you after running marathons.
Can't wait to hear about your races!
All the best,
Ron
You are going to kill it out there! Congrats on all those great races, (and NY!!!!!) you will rock them all and you are much braver than me to try to swim! Can't wait to follow your adventures. :)
i just loved reading through all your pfitz training logs. I just started pfitz 18 week program; I'm in week 3. It was neat to read about your experiences with it. I can't believe all the races you signed up for. That's awesome; you'll totally have some great experiences and times!
Definitely crazy! ;) Hopefully I'll end up meeting you at at least one of those, along with Aron and Julianne! I'm doing Napa to Sonoma and CIM, and I might do the See Jane Tri also!
Wow girl - you're really on fire. What a way to beat those blues! I think it all sounds do-able though - as long as you don't race the races you don't want to race you should be completely fine - and become a marathon maniac to boot I think..
So glad to hear from you. Sounds like you've been busy with lots of running.
Uhhh, the race season - your pretty much crazy....but freakin' awesome.
That's so cool your swimming. I don't know who I would live without it. Your exactly right - form is way more important than distance. I have seen people swim so "fast" in the pool, but never go anywhere. I feel so bad. So much energy wasted. When I first started swimming I watched so may You Tube vids. It actually really helped. There are a ton. That's also where I learned to do flip turn. Stick with it.
If you can kick ass in a marathon like we know you can, a sprint will be like a drop in the bucket. Plus, sounds like you already did the whole even that day ;)Happy trianing!
WOW! Marathons galore! And a Tri!! Yay. Congrats on getting into NYC and for signing up for the tri. You're going to do great! You're off to a great start in the pool, seriously. And you can find someone to borrow a bike no problem! Go you. It's going to be a fun year.
holy hell. you trying to achieve maniac status or something? That's quite the ambitious schedule...AND your first tri no less!
I'm tired just looking at that list. but best of luck - you'll do great for sure!
Wow I am so impressed with your line up. Good for you. And good for us that we get so many race updates in the future!
Twinnie! I'm so excited to watch you do all these races! I keep thinking i'm crazy for attempting 2marathons in one year. Your doing like who knows how many and a tri? holy awesome. your my hero.
and your going to kick some SERIOUS @$$ too!!! can't wait for CIM
Good luck on your races!! I can't wait to hear about your experiences!
You are a teensy bit crazy in a good way! SO JEALOUS you are doing NYC. I am definitely entering the raffle next year. A 400m swim your first time is AWESOME, too. You must be a natural (or I really sucked at it).
p.s. That song is in the first "Ice Age." I sometimes put it on my ipod on runs :)
YAY! You are so freakin' hardcore, girl! I am so excited for you and know you will kick butt! You are just that rad!
Go Go GO!
P.S. Come on, you know those dance moves make you want to make sexytime. Rawwrrrr!
saw on Twitter that you got a hotel in Sac for CIM. We will be staying at the Citizen hotel. They have AWESOME customer service (they let us stay late, they brought us big ziplock bags of ice). and since it is a hotel catering to business folks it was cheeper during the weekend then during the week.
Good luck on all of your races!
Hi Tara, it was great to meet you last weekend at the Napa to Sonoma half, good luck tomorrow!
